K-DEVCON 2025 후기K-DEVCON 2025 Review
Growing together through community
K-DEVCON

After attending K-DEVCON 2025, I looked a little deeper into the K-DEVCON community. It also gave me a chance to put into words what I think ‘community’ is.
K-DEVCON

I think I first heard about K-DEVCON around 2024. It stuck with me because it’s a community with all sorts of activities in Daejeon and Seoul.
- Meetups & seminars of all kinds
- Study groups of all kinds
- Mentoring: Go To Learn
- Interviews: RE:CODER Interviews
I promised myself I’d make it to one of their events this year, and on November 1, 2025, under a crisp autumn sky, I went to K-DEVCON 2025!

About K-DEVCON
Sungwook Kang opened with a brief introduction to K-DEVCON.
- The small spark that started the community
- Started in 2016 in LA, California; next year it’ll be a 10-year-old community…!
- Renamed to ‘K-DEVCON’ in 2021, currently rebranding
- A sandbox-like community where you can take on challenges and grow safely
What resonated with me most were the ‘small spark’ that started it all and the idea of a ‘sandbox-like community’.
How the Community Began
Sungwook said that back when he was inexperienced, an older friend helped him a lot. And one day he suddenly wondered, ‘Why is this person doing so much for me?’, so he asked:
“Why do you go this far for me?”
“Because it’s fun! Help someone else later on, too.”
> A community that grows from a small spark
The study group he started himself in a faraway foreign land grew over the years into today’s K-DEVCON community.
Why Do They Do It?
As I went to event after event, at some of them my eyes kept drifting to the people running the event. And I got curious.
“Why do those people go that far?”
Every one of them said it wasn’t their day job. When I asked why they pour in time and effort for something that isn’t even their job, the answers were all pretty similar.
- Because they like it
- Because it’s fun
- Because they wanted to try it
- Because they just want to help
Communities made of people like that seem to have a special warmth. Maybe that’s why I felt that same warmth at K-DEVCON 2025.
Why Communities Matter
What I’ve noticed from going to many events is that there seem to be roughly two kinds.
- Company-led events
- Community-led events
Company-Led Events
When I first thought of events/conferences, I pictured a grand building, countless booths, prizes…! ‘Company-led events’, basically. They have their good sides, but it’s a pity that if a company doesn’t host one, there’s simply nothing you can do.
Community-Led Events
‘Community-led events’ can feel lacking in some ways. Still, I think they have more upsides!
- A welcoming, warm atmosphere
- More emphasis on connecting attendees with each other
- A virtuous cycle where members share their experiences and also run things
As long as there are members, even with limited resources it somehow keeps going. Isn’t that the biggest charm? Maybe that’s why every community feels precious to me, regardless of how well-known it is or how big its events are.
My Hopes Going Forward
Me included, I’d guess 90% of community members are introverts. Even so, I strongly recommend joining a variety of communities. Communities, too, need your interest and participation more than anything.
And I’m sure the community you find will welcome you warmly and help you grow by acting as a safe sandbox.

> Growing together through community
- Find a community
- May more communities spring up in more regions
- And may people of all kinds get to meet
I hope you find the joy of learning and growing through communities and people.
Thank you. 😊
